We have a core team of three teachers.

Ian Davidson from London Film School will teach technical subjects and Ton van der Lee, a highly experienced international director, will teach content. Director Katinka de Maar, who made several prize winning documentary series, will teach directing and related subjects.

Ton van der Lee started his film career by making documentaries for MSF (Doctors Without Borders) and went on to direct and/or produce more than 20 feature documentaries and series in Europe, Africa and the US. He has also written and produced TV drama and feature films. His films have been broadcast in many countries and have been shown at a number of international festivals.

He has experience as a documentary film teacher both in the Netherlands and internationally.

He will be teaching documentary structure, research, script writing, interviewing and directing.

Ton has also published 16 books.

Katinka de Maar has directed a number of feature documentaries for Dutch television, often in the field of education and youth. She has won several prizes with her work. Her latest 6 part documentary series ‘ Een valse start, 100 dagen in de jeugd en gezinszorg ‘ about youth care was broadcast by VPRO television (Netherlands) in 2025 to much critical acclaim. It is part of her well-known ‘100 dagen’ series.

Katinka will be teaching some of our courses depending on the time of year.

Ian Davidson has worked in the TV business in the UK for over 20 years, having worked as a video editor, sound recordist, cameraman, sound postproduction engineer among other technical roles in film and television.

He will be teaching camera, sound, lighting, drone operation and editing.
